Eighteen nationally and internationally known artists will display custom-made teapots, cups and other unique ceramic works Thursday, Nov. 2, through Dec. 15. in Westmont’s Reynolds Gallery. There will be an opening discussion and reception for “Form and Function: A Ceramics Invitational,” Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m.

The show will overflow with custom works, highlighting both functional and sculptural work. Each artist has contributed a pouring vessel, four unique cups or mugs and a creative free-form piece.

Local artist Christopher Rupp has spent eight months organizing and compiling the collection.

“The show will demonstrate the breadth of artistry and creativity in contemporary ceramic work,” Rupp says. “Each artist has a very unique style from the formation, glaze and firing, yet they each use the same basic materials.”

A highlight of the show will be three pieces created by Karen Karnes, one of America’s foremost ceramic artists.

“Ceramics is as much of an art as painting and other traditionally displayed mediums,” says Rupp, “but it is unique in that a collector can find affordable, high-caliber work from some of the best artists.”

All of the pieces will be for sale at the gallery.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, contact Nicholas Price at (805)565-6162. For directions to campus, visit the college Web site at www.westmont.edu.
