College to Light 150-Foot Christmas Tree
By
Westmont
Hundreds of students, alumni, and neighbors will don mittens and scarves to celebrate Christmas season at the fifth annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Westmont’s Kerrwood Lawn, Wednesday, Dec. 6. The lights on the 150-foot redwood tree will aglow at 5 p.m.
Santa Claus will be inside Kerrwood Hall to pose for free pictures with children. Warm apple cider and cookies will also be available.
The Westmont Gospel Choir will perform and lead participants in traditional Christmas carols. Alister Chapman, assistant professor of history, will give a short speech followed by the lighting of the tree. The Westmont College Student Association selects a secret person each year to flip the switch that lights the giant tree.
Westmont alumni are invited to a farewell reception in Hieronymus Lounge for Provost Shirley Mullen at 4 p.m.
Alumni are asked to bring a canned good to donate to The Unity Shoppe, a local volunteer program that helps Santa Barbara’s working class needy.
