Faculty to Present Eclectic Program

Egle JanuleviciuteMembers of the music faculty at Westmont will present a free recital featuring music from Buxtehude to Debussy on Tuesday, March 20, at 8 p.m. at Westmont’s Porter Theatre.

The program features vocalist Grey Brothers in Dietrich Buxtehude’s rarely heard cantata, “Herr, nun lasst du deinen Diener.” J.S. Bach once walked 200 miles to hear Buxtehude and was greatly influenced by his compositional style. Claude Debussy’s “Toccata,” a keyboard genre frequently used by Buxtehude, will be performed by pianist Egle Januleviciute. The program will then shift to performances of arias and songs by Mozart, Faure and Dvorak featuring Michael Shasberger and soprano Celeste Tavera. It will close with a performance of Barber’s Cello Sonata, featuring Nona Pyron, Westmont’s new cello instructor.
