Free Lecture to Explore 'God and Darwin'

A professor from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., will discuss whether animal pain makes for a compelling argument against God's existence at a free lecture, Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Westmont’s Hieronymus Lounge. Michael J. Murray, Arthur and Katherine Shadek professor in the humanities, will give the lecture, “God and Darwin’s ‘Clumsy, Wasteful, Blundering, Low and Horribly Cruel Works of Nature.’”
Murray is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. He earned his master’s degree and doctorate at the University of Notre Dame. His areas of specialization include the work of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, philosophy of religion and metaphysics. He has edited and written several books including “Philosophy of Religion: The Big Questions,” “Reason for the Hope Within,” and “Leibniz’s Philosophical Theology.”
The event is part of Westmont’s continuing Erasmus Lecture Series, which gives student an opportunity to explore a variety of disciplines through talks by leading scholars.
