Gallery Draws Top Children's Illustrators

Illustration

Acclaimed children's book artists C.F. Payne, Lisbeth Zwerger, and Gregory
Manchess will exhibit work in Reynolds Gallery's "Storytellers: Children's
Book Illustrators," Nov. 3 through Dec. 13. The artists will be available to
sign books at the family-friendly opening reception Saturday, Nov. 3, from 2
to 5 p.m.

Payne is one of America's most treasured illustrators, capturing the hearts
of millions with his poignant monthly back covers for the Reader's Digest.
He has won numerous gold and silver medals from the Society of Illustrators
in New York, as well as their prestigious Hamilton King Award. Payne's
children's books include two collaborations with Emmy award-winning actor
John Lithgow.

Viennese illustrator Zwerger has devoted her work exclusively to children's
literature for over 25 years. In a unique folk art style, her illustrations
of classics from Dickens to the Brothers Grimm convey "both poignancy and
sly humor," according to Publishers Weekly. Zwerger has won nearly every
award an illustrator can, including the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for
her lifetime accomplishments.

Manchess has illustrated for such prestigious clients as National
Geographic, Time, The Atlantic Monthly and many others. He received the
prestigious Hamilton King Award from the Society of Illustrators in New York
in 1999 and he has won multiple medals from the same institution. Manchess
has completed numerous children's books to date and continues to win
accolades for his painterly work.

This is the gallery's second exhibit of work by book illustrators. A similar
exhibit in 2003, showcasing the illustrations of Gary Kelley, Kadir Nelson,
and Kinuko Craft, was one of Reynolds Gallery's most well-attended shows.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 11 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, contact Nicholas Price at (805)
