Westmont musicians will showcase their skills at the spring concert for the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra at 8 p.m. April 29 in Deane Chapel on the lower campus. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.
The Chamber Orchestra, an all-strings ensemble directed by Emily Sommermann, will present Brandenburg Concerto #3 by J.S. Bach, Sonata in G minor by H. Eccles, a Serenade by Lars Larsson, Spanish Dance by Shostakovich, and the Serenade for Strings, Op. 20 by Elgar. The orchestra has seven student members: Elizabeth LeRud, Morgan Gillaspy, Yuko Hirayama, Krista Rodkey, Kristi Rothwell, Jennifer Salemann and Matthew Kissel.
Ron McCarley conducts Westmont’s Wind Ensemble, the Flute Ensemble and the Wind Quintet in a concert that culminates a year’s worth of work. The ensembles will perform works by Holst, Copeland, Britten, Witcacre and Sousa.
“We will be performing pieces that involve everything from narration to addition of the organ, to choir and a flute duet,” says McCarley.
