November Line-up of Musical Talent
By
Westmont
Three separate concerts in November will showcase the talents of Westmont student vocalists, instrumentalists and composers. The concerts are free and open to the public. The Vocal Chamber Concert, Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Westmont's Deane Chapel, at 8 p.m., will feature six chamber singers, New Sounds, a four person ensemble and the men's choral. The chamber singers will perform a cappella works, mainly from the Renaissance. New Sounds will perform vocal jazz and contemporary pieces from around the world. The men's chorale will explore repertoire particularly suited to the rich sound of male voices in harmony.
The Wind Ensemble Concert, Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Montecito Covenant Church, at 8 p.m., will feature a 20-member ensemble comprised of woodwind, brass, percussion and the new Westmont Woodwind Octet. The ensemble, under the direction of Adjunct Professor of Music Paul Mori, will perform movements from an Octet-Partita by Franz Krommer and other chamber music selections. The Westmont Woodwind Quintet will perform Darius Milhaud's "The Chimney of King René." A flute quartet will perform pieces by Bach and Ravel. The concert will culminate with a performance of "Rejouissance, Fantasia on Ein Fest Burg" ("A Mighty Fortress is our God") by James Curnow.
The Composer's Concert, Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Deane Chapel at 8 p.m., is a showcase of new works by student composers. There will be an eclectic mix of string, vocal and piano pieces performed by the composers and fellow students.
