Multiracial people constitute the fastest-growing racial category in the United States. Paul Spickard, professor of history, Asian American studies, and religion at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will discuss “What Are You? Multiracial People Negotiating the Identity Issue” at a free lecture Friday, Jan. 11, at 3:30 p.m. in Kerrwood Hall’s Hieronymus Lounge. Refreshments will be served at 3:15 p.m.
Spickard will discuss how multiracial people represent a change in America’s racial system and the issues surrounding the lives of people who possess multiple racial heritages and identities.
The lecture, sponsored by Westmont intercultural programs office, is free and open to the public.
Spickard, who received his doctorate in history at UC Berkeley, has authored several books including “Mixed Blood: Intermarriage and Ethnic Identity in Twentieth-Century America” and recently co-authored “Revealing the Sacred in Asian and Pacific America.”
