Talk Offers Keys To Find ‘Joy At Work’

Dennis Bakke, best-selling author of “Joy at Work: A Revolutionary Approach To Fun on the Job,” speaks at the University Club Tuesday, April 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the University Club, 1332 Santa Barbara St. Bakke, a successful entrepreneur and former CEO, will lecture on “Thank God It’s Monday: Finding Joy at Work.” The event, sponsored by the Westmont Foundation, is free, though seating is limited. “Joy at Work” provides a blueprint for management to model, where employees genuinely look forward to work and consider it more than just a place to pick up a paycheck. Bakke outlines his unorthodox approach regarding corporate structure, decision-making and compensation while mapping out guidelines on how to build an organization where every team member can say: “Thank God It’s Monday.”
Bakke co-founded AES in 1981 and served as president and CEO from 1994 to 2002, during which time he build the international energy company into a multibillion dollar enterprise with 40,000 employees in 31 countries. He is president and CEO of Imagine Schools, operating 70 elementary and secondary charter schools in 10 states.
