U.S. President Names Alum as Assistant

President George W. Bush announced that Jedd Medefind, a 1997 Westmont graduate, will become special assistant to the president and deputy director of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. Prior to this, Medefind served as director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the Department of Labor.

Medefind earned bachelor’s degrees in communication studies and economics and business. He played on the men’s basketball team and earned a Golden Eagle scholar-athlete award in 1996. He also received a Ring Award for achieving the highest grade point average among scholar-athletes.

In 1997, Medefind won Westmont’s annual Passion and Civility Debate. He also took first place in the persuasive essay contest “In Defense of Wisdom.”

Medefind served as chief of staff for California Assemblyman Tim Leslie. He also provided communication services to national and international organizations, ranging from the C.S. Lewis Foundation to Price Waterhouse, Moscow.

Medefind has co-authored “Four Souls: A Search for Epic Life” and “The Revolutionary Communicator: Seven Principles Jesus Lived To Impact, Connect And Lead.”
