One of the area's leading violinists will perform a free midday concert this month in Ventura. Philip Ficsor, Westmont professor of violin, will play classical music Thursday, July 26, at 12:15 p.m. at the Ventura Avenue Adult Center, 550 N. Ventura Ave.
The public is invited to bring lunch and enjoy the performance, which is sponsored by the City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division. Ficsor's wife, Claire-Marie, who is also a board certified dentist in Ventura, will also play in the program.
Philip Ficsor received his doctorate in violin performance from Boston University and holds other degrees from Yale University and the University of Michigan. As a member of the violin-piano duo, American Double, he recorded William Bolcom's Complete Works for Violin and Piano. The recording will be released Sept. 1 nationwide. This season, the duo will perform at the Harvard Music Association in Boston and Steinway Hall in New York, along with other prestigious venues on the East Coast.
